Gowbarrow again

Time for a short, local walk. Gowbarrow never disappoints and just for a change we altered the route!

We started at the 'other' car park and headed through Aira Force

and up onto Green Hill

There are always a few Herdies up here. At this time of year they will all be hoggs

The fells are really spectacular at the moment

My favourite view

Breeze's favourite bench

A lovely 4.5 miles.

Martindale Edge

If you're a fan of funny place names, then this is a walk for you. Read on, you'll see what I mean! We headed over to Martindale and parked at the Old Church, starting out bu walking round the back of it to head for Nettlehow Crag

This really is red deer country, they are a bit more illusive now that the rutting season is well and truly over, and those that we did see today were to quick for this photographer!

Looking down to Martindale on a beautiful morning

Looking back down to where we started, you can see the grey roof of the Old Church with a few vehicles parked to the left (ours too)

After a short steep climb we reach Pikeawassa, the summit of Steel Knotts

Snow topped Blencathra catches the light behind Gowbarrow

Turning round as we leave Pikeawassa and we are heading for the wall ahead which we will then follow onto Gowk Hill

Looking down into Martindale again. You can see there is still and awful lot of drying to be done

As we drop down into Fusedale, we fine the perfect lunch spot in an old ruined barn. Big flat stones to sit on, a wall to lean against and sunshine too. 'Cheers' says Jay

'Where's mine?' (the dribble on her chin tells you she's already had it!)

Family gathering

The lovely, lonely Fusedale. Steel Knotts is the fell above Breeze and we are now heading right down Fusedale to walk around the far end of Steel Knotts

Replacing the dog with a tree!

Plenty of landslides as a result of the horrendous flooding back at the beginning of December

Walking through The Coombs, Breeze can't resist a bench

Nearly back at the car as Martindale Old Church comes into view
A distinct lack of fell fitness means we're keeping to shorter routes at the moment, so a mere 5 miles. A beautiful day and you really would be hard pressed to find a better area to walk in than this.

Carrock Fell

Back home after the best part of two weeks away. We so desperately need a dose of the hills. Having only got home late last night we don't manage to get out for a walk till after lunch, so a quick visit to Carrock Fell seems like the right sort of walk

Quckly climbing up Rospow Hills, the Fell Ponies were wandering up the road when we arrived, it seems they followed us to our parking spot

Above the snow line now. How come Breeze can get this mucky in the snow?

Reaching the top, it's a fabulous afternoon

Zooming in on the western fells. Doesn't look quite so nice over that way this afternoon

Miton Hill

High Pike behind Breeze

As we walk down past Weasel Hills it looks like the Fell Ponies have come to greet us

Afternoon!
All this bad weather and time away from home is taking it's toll on our fitness. We probably only covered about 4.5 miles but we knew we'd done it. Even Breeze is suffering from lack of fitness. She actually walked for a few yards at one point this afternoon!
